Les Métaboles
Founded in 2010 at the instigation of Léo Warynski, Les Métaboles brings together a group of professional singers committed to the repertoire for a cappella choir. Their name, inspired by a piece by Henri Dutilleux (1916-2013), based on the idea of metamorphosis, evokes the choir's ability to transform itself according to the repertoire, while emphasising its roots in the music of today. The ensemble devotes itself to the entire spectrum of the choral repertoire and performs it to a wide assortment of audiences. While a large part of Les Métaboles' activity is devoted to the a cappella repertoire, collaborations with orchestras and instrumental ensembles also form part of its musical season. The ensemble periodically works with l'Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, l'Orchestre national de Metz Grand Est, l'Orchestre de chambre de Paris, l'Ensemble intercontemporain and l'Ensemble Multilatérale.
Les Métaboles are regular guests at prestigious festivals and venues in France and abroad (Philharmonie de Paris, Opéra-Comique, Festival d'Automne à Paris, La Cité musicale-Metz, Le Festival de Ribeauvillé, Les Sommets musicaux de Gstaad, Les Rencontres musicales d'Évian, Das Staatstheater Mainz in Germany, Hamburg's Die Elbphilharmonie, Salburg's Mozarteum , and the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan). Les Métaboles gives pride of place to contemporary composers by commissioning works, premiering works, and disseminating the repertoire of living composers.
The ensemble is also committed to training professionals through the ARCO composition academy and training courses for young choral conductors. Le Moine et le Voyou (2023), nominated for a 2024 Victoires de la musique award, The Angels (2021) Jardin féérique (2020), Une nuit américaine (2016), Mysterious Nativity (2014) and Another Look (due for release on b.records in March 2025) make up Les Métaboles' impressive discography. Unanimously acclaimed by the critics, these recordings have established the ensemble as one of France's finest choirs, as much for its vocal excellence (precision, sound colour, homogeneity of timbre, etc.) as for the originality of the repertoires chosen.
Les Métaboles won the Prix Liliane Bettencourt for choral singing in 2018.
