Ballades et requiem

Under the direction of Léo Warynski, the Ensemble intercontemporain and Les Métaboles offer a monograph on Francesco Filidei, who has established himself for a decade as one of the most eminent figures of Italian creation.

A trained organist, Francesco Filidei is part of the tradition of Italian music – particularly that of vocal writing which he sometimes seeks to subvert, as in Tutto in una volta (2020) – and is particularly passionate about all the issues of memory (historical, musicological, immediate, etc.), at work both in the compositional process and in the listening process. This is evidenced by his cycle of Ballads (Ballata), initiated in 2011: all of them dialogue with works from the Romantic era (first and foremost, the ballad composed by Liszt) or the Renaissance (in the form of stanzas). This is also evidenced by his Requiem (2021), a “dead form” according to him, a “ghost” that must be “inhabited from the inside”.
