Chœurs d'orgue

Himself a political refugee, Xenakis dedicates Nuits (for twelve voices and chorus) to Greek political prisoners. One month after the creation (April 19168), this piece became an emblem of the revolutionary movement. Poulenc composed the somber chamber cantata Un soir de neige in 1944; the snow evoked by the poems of Paul Eluard is here that of winter, death and war. To this program is added the piece by Arvo Pärt for mixed choir and organ and a command from the Philharmonie de Paris to the composer Lucia Ronchetti

The organ and the voice are poor relatives in the catalog of Iannis Xenakis, but they are not absent, and have been the subject of the same radical questioning instigated by the Greek composer in other fields.
